BY THE MEMBERS FOR THE MEMBERS

Club Activities

Below are some of the many activities normally available to members. Contact details for the organisers are on the Members page of the website

Art Group

Meeting fortnightly, Monday mornings 10 'til 12 in the function room, the group gets together to test their creativity through painting and drawing.

Book Club

The New Club Book Group, was started 12 years ago and now meets on the first Monday of the month (except May) in the morning in the well-appointed club library. Open to 12 members, each is invited to choose a book for everyone to read before leading a discussion about it's contents and merits.

Bridge

Our bridge group meets every Tuesday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00pm.  We range from beginners, some with little or no experience, anxious to learn and improve, to more experienced players, who help tutor the beginners. If you fancy challenging your brain whilst enjoying a relaxing and social couple of hours, why not join us.

New Club Choir

You don't need a voice like Andre Bocelli or Sarah Brightman to be a member of the choir. Singing improves your mood. It releases the same feel-good brain chemicals as sex and chocolate! It is very effective as a stress reliever and improves sleep. What is there not to like!

Club Italiano

Would you like to speak confidently with the locals on your next holiday in Italy,  then why not join this friendly group learning Italian together.   From beginners to those who speak Italian well. Friday mornings weekly in the library from  11 ' til 12, and monthly extra conversation practice in the Bar at 6pm on Tuesday evenings.

Golf

The highlight of the New Club's golfing year is the tournament for the Congreve Cup and Tait Salver. Played in the Spring at one of the many golf courses in and around Cheltenham, the day ends with the prize giving and a sumptuous supper prepared by the New Club's chef and his team.  It falls to the winners to take responsibility for organising the following year's event.

Ladies only lunches

Once a quarter our dining room will be dedicated to our lady members only.

Dates will be announced in the NCT.

Memoir Group

Everybody has a story to tell and the memoir group is made up of members, not necessarily literary geniuses, who are interested in writing their life stories for friends and family.

Music Group

Meeting monthly on Thursday mornings in the Library. Members of the group nominate music of any genre to both critique and simply enjoy.

Pilates

Suitable for all ages and abilities, led by Lucy Whitehead, highly qualified in Specialist Pilates.  Two classes are held each week, on Tuesdays with Samantha Lewis and on Thursdays with Lucy Whitehead.

Scrabble Group

Most Friday Mornings 10.30 start in the Coffee Lounge.

Screen & Supper

Monthly screenings of  films chosen by our members, followed by supper.

Snooker

The Club has a Snooker Room with a full size table, recently refurbished, where members can enjoy a quiet, or not so quiet, frame or two, at any time that the Club is open. Members may book the table ahead of time and, indeed, make a regular weekly booking. We now have a thriving ladies section and regular mixed competitions.

Supper Lectures

Once a month, guest speakers or a member of the Club will present educational and entertaining talks on a wide variety of subjects, followed by supper.

Walking Group

A ramble is arranged most months of the year. They are usually about 4 miles in length over not too taxing terrain and within 10 miles of Cheltenham, ending with lunch at a carefully selected pub. In the summer months it's often an afternoon event followed by an early supper at a pub or back at the New Club.

Wine Appreciation Group

This Group arranges a programme of wine education events covering both talks and tutored tastings and social events including wine merchant tastings and visits to vineyards and wine fairs.
